The wife and I went to see “End of the Rainbow”, a play about Judy Garland’s last days. Some of it was live performance of Garland’s standards, but a good deal of it was behind the scenes drama, as her to-be-5th husband tries to wean her from booze and pills.

Angela Ingersoll, the actress playing Garland, did an outstanding job of belting out the songs, but also of capturing Judy Garland’s movements, gestures and speech.
Those of us who remember seeing her on TV toward the end, can relate.
The clip is of Angela Ingersoll doing a Judy standard.

I didn’t realize that when she died of an overdose in 1969, Frank Sinatra paid for her funeral, and James Mason delivered the eulogy.

47, too young. Drug/alcohol abuse have taken away too many of our greatest talents, who had so much more to give.

I am named after a great uncle, whom I never got to meet. He died too young from alcohol abuse.

Foster Brooks had a comedy act where he acted like a drunk. I never laughed. It is not funny.

I would like to see that play, but I am stuck in the toilet of New Jersey for now. So Cal is too far away.
