Rory's original Strat spent a few weeks in someone's back garden because it was ditched there after the thief who took it didn't want to get caught trying to peddle it.

There weren't a lot of Strats in Ireland at the time (1961), and word was out that it was stolen.

Sitting out in the dampness most probably helped a lot of the finish come off over time. Some guitar freaks disagree with this--they blame Rory's corrosive body chemistry.

However, I have worked on several older Fenders and other brands finished in nitrocelulose lacquer that were subjected to wet/damp conditions. In every case, the wood swelled and then dried out, causing cracks and flaking in the finish.

Peegoo, interesting history! Thanks!

I've never been a fan of relic'd guitars, especially for that kinda money. Let my relic my own.

I think these artist tribute guitars allow the buyer to feel a little closer to the original player.

I don't get a thrill from playing a so-called 'signature' guitar, but I do have a few Gibson Les Pauls--so I guess they sorta qualify :o)

Lots of respect for Rory Gallagher, but, yeah, that's a LOT of bare wood... I'm sure it's got some kind of protective finish on it, but still...
