from talking to various folks in retail, a lot of the candy is just stored for next year. Not sure if there are expiration dates on the small packages, but even if there are, who reads them?

By December 25th, I'm so sick of Christmas, I wanna puke. It used to mean something, but they've commercialized it to death. And since P.C. has taken over, and you must say "Happy Holidays" lest you could offend anyone, it has become meaningless, except to retailers.

"And since P.C. has taken over, and you must say "Happy Holidays" lest you could offend anyone"

In theory, maybe. I've only ever said Merry Christmas and if anyone was offended, they didn't let me know it.

I'm not a holiday guy. If I was single, I'd pay no attention to any of them.

You would just live up on Mount Crumpit with your dog, Max.

It appears Mr Greene belongs to that growing antiho movement ;-)

I love Christmas in Florida. For the week or so before and after the 25th my neighbors stand in their backyards at dusk in their shorts and wife beaters. After their third or so Bud they shoot off fireworks in pre-celebration of the huge New Years Armageddon they like to stage. Seems to be unique to Florida.

"The new occupants had cut it down."

Two weeks ago our new neighbors at the end of the street cut down a beautiful 35' willow that has been there forever.

There was nothing wrong with the tree itself. However, they were advised by their realtor's home inspector that willows are insidious below ground: the roots find their way into the old sewer pipe and block it up. Rather than replace the old pipe with new (~$20K or so), they spent $1K to have it taken out. I can understand that.

Well, this particular one was in the middle of a field about 100 yards from the house, but whatever.

It's their house now.

I'm a total Scrooge. I'd be happy to not see any evidence of Christmas until the week of. It's a season of added stress for me. I thought I heard one of my co-workers playing Christmas music today. Didn't get close enough to verify but my immediate urge was to go smash their radio.

For me, it's really hard to appreciate Christmas and Thanksgiving for that matter in Hawaii. It's 85 every day of the year and there is nothing reminiscent of cold mornings, and first light Christmas Bacchanalia from the kids, etc.

I go through the motions for the one who did grow up here and remembers Christmas as she knew it. I do the lights, the live tree, all the crappy Christmas music till I puke..Then it's over, and it's still 85 degrees...

Nothing warms the heart and brings on the Christmas glow like a blowup snow man and colored strobe lights dancing on the house...humbug.

I loved the glitzy Christmas stuff when I was a kid and when my kids were little....now, even my grand kids are growing up and the excitement seems to be lost now. I do tend to think more about the reason for the season now and not so much about the commercial aspects that make it all seem so stressful, loud and tacky these days. Maybe it's just one of the many signs of old age.
