I was not here in the 70's. I rolled into town in 1984.

I do remember Chick Hall's Surf Club in Hyattsville (just up the road from Bladenburg).

Gotcha thanks. I was only a teenager back then and left there for SC in 81' Never got to go, but saw that Roy Buchanan played there a lot in the early 70s.

My Grandmother lived in Cheverly, I lived in Annapolis, then Kent Island.

Buchanan played at Chick Hall's a few times in the mid-80s when I arrived here. Danny Gatton too. I was very fortunate to see them both when they were topside of the dirt.

The Rhodes Tavern Troubadours (local DC band) has a song about the Telecaster pickers from this area.

They forgot Roy Clark! He's from DC too.

There's some mean pickin' here

by Dave Chappell and Bill Kirchin.

One last bit of DC area music nostalgia:

Weasel (DJ) reads the WHFS Concert Calendar for Feb-Mar 1983. Some bands you'll know.

Others--you probably never heard of.

Weasel is still on the air! Works at a small station up in Towson.

I turned 18 in 1980 and lived in Woodbridge. Bladensburg may as well have been the moon for us Virginia dwellers! Although we did get to shows at Merriweather Post Pavilion.
Went to the Bayou a couple times, saw Cheap Trick at Georgetown's arena on the Dream Police tour.
The 'local' club for us was the "Wild West" in West Springfield. Saw some good bands there 81-83 including 4 out of 5 Doctors more than once!

And multiple Bruuuce and Kiss shows at the Cap Centre! I moved to NJ in 85 and came back in 95, so saw other shows at the Cap Centre before it closed!

That's cool mroulier, I believe my last show there was 79' Bad Company.

Here's a cool list of the shows there. A cool trip down memory lane IMO.

I have that DC-101 t-shirt in a box somewhere. Grabbed it a a DC101 sponsored 4 Out of 5 Doctors Halloween show at the aforementioned Wild West. "Adam Smash" was the host.

Adam Smasher was a fine DJ. He also fronted his own band in the late 80s-early 90s.

My first "real" concert was at Cap Centre to see McCartney and Wings during the Wings over America tour in 1976.
