My recently acquired 2017 Am Special Strat has an incredibly nice maple fretboard. There is very little finish and what's on there is satin like.

None of the maple fretboard Strats I've owned or played over several decades were anywhere as nice as on this Am Special Strat. That includes Custom Shop guitars.

Note - The one exception is Charvel Strat-style guitars. I own a Charvel So Cal that has a super nice maple fretboard and have played other Charvels with similar maple fretboards.

Thats awesome to hear. I have played a few nice and a few crap Maple necks. My favorite at this point is my AVRI 57 V neck vintage frets and all.

I have a maple board American Special and yes, They are very nice necks. The jumbo frets combined with a feel of rolled edges (which the neck doesn't have but it feels like it does) makes for a fast, light touch players neck.

The nicest maple FB neck I've played though is my 2003 Highway One Strat. Super comfortable and just perfect. It also feels like it has rolled edges even though officially it doesn't. There is not a great difference of feel between this neck and the American special even tough it's fitted with medium jumbo frets.

the 2017 American Standards are great guitars. Seems they keep making refinements. Even the MIM deluxe models are killer.

Yep, the MIM Deluxe models are awesome. I have a 2017 Deluxe Roadhouse Strat and it is up there along with my 2010 American Deluxe Strat, which about as best mass produced quality available IMO.
