So does that mean they're, essentially, stone? You can tell I don't know much about "fossilized" bridge pins, saddles, nuts, etc.
Otherwise, TTIUWP and how do they sound compared to the stock Martin plastic pins?

Well yes, they are dense like stone. But you pull the Martin out of the case and tell the admiring crowds : " See these? They're fossilized woolly mammoth tusk!"

As for the tone? I hear no difference. But being able to say "fossillized woolly mammoth tusk" is cool :-)

What you do is give them a detailed and engaging dissertation on Wooly Mammoth Tusk. Keep them in suspense. Then, while everyone holds their breath, strum a chord, but drop the pick in the guitar. Start cursing and shaking the guitar upsidedown.

I was curious because many guitar guys more knowledgeable than I say that bridge pins have almost zero bearing on sound. Martin has used plastic pins since what, the 30's? I do like an abalone dot on my bridge pins, however, even if they're plastic.
But fossilized woolly mammoth bridge pins is way cooler sounding than an $8 set of plastic pins.

Yeah, that does sound cool.
Now if you can just teach that woolly mammoth to play guitar you'll be the talk of the town.

I put ebony bridge pins in my Martin.
Yeah, you're right, "ebony" is nowhere near as cool sounding as "fossilized woolly mammoth tusk."

I tried Fossil mastodon as the saddle, I tried old Ivory too. I'm partial to the sound of corian and have been using it for nuts and saddles. I think I have a set of Mastodon bridge pins in the 000-15S.
Too bad T-Rex fossil claws are so hard to come by. You know, for the whole slash metal thing.

I just found some fossilized Walrus ivory pins online.
Is Walrus more cool than Wooly Mammoth?
