Have you been watching? This guy's a hoot, often in a cringe-worthy way. Plus he's getting into rarefied territory; After only 8 games he already ranks #5 in all-time regular season $ winnings. Should Ken Jennings be worried?

This dude rocks!!!! We have been watching as we always do and how refreshing and enjoyable it has been.

If he loses it would have to be because he wants to go home..

^ It would be just like him to throw his final game on purpose, shrug shoulders, do a little dance and walk away.

Weirdly cool and reminds me of my "crowd" in high school.

He is my favorite contestant in years.

I agree that he will choose when he wants to exit.

So true.. I suspect he will give a snappy dance and go back to being a "bartender" ? Is that not also cool.

Ken Jennings was ok and had his little thing going, but this cat is cool.

I'd rather be "cool" than a "winner" and all without trying to be cool. Austin's just being himself.

His mama must be proud.

Hey Austin, can you make my favorite drink, a Picon Punch ?

Bet he can, and along with it give you the run down of the ingredients and the history of the drink (Basque).

Honestly, I was tired of his shtick after the first day. I'm guessing he'll lose soon by wagering too much on a daily double -- which he always does -- missing it, and being too far behind to catch up.

"shtick" or personality traits/character.?

This is why (obvious) that he is weirdly different and knows it and revels in it in (my opinion) a modest way.

He may just bet himself into oblivion , but is that not Austin.? C'est la vie!

The world needs someone like him to give us a break from the pedantic prudes.

We just started watching Jeopardy again a few weeks ago. I like to impress my wife with what I bark at the tv (phrased as a question) that turns out to be the correct answer. Sometimes none of the three contestants know what I know. Sometimes.

This Austin guy is different. I wonder what his condition is that make him so smart.

The reason I wonder is that Ken Jennings was talking about the difference between Jeopardy winners and winners on other game shows (Wheel of Fortune, Price Is Right, Let's Make a Deal, etc. Jennings says that Jeopardy winners don't celebrate as exuberantly as the other winners because Jeopardy winners are typically introverts, compared with the other game show winners.

Which I like to hear, as an introvert.

Maybe Jeopardy contestants are on the autism scale, or have Asperger's (if Asperger's should be found to not be autism). Maybe Austin has Asperger's himself. I have read that, if you have seen one person with Asperger's, you have seen one person with Asperger's.

Just speculating about Austin. I don't know what his story is, other than he is a bartender.

He certainly has more useless information in his head than I do, and that is a LOT.

My guess:

Genetics, and avoided or disregarded public education, and is self educated.

Austin did say he just had to know what he did not know. Compulsion and passion for learning.

Well, Austin Rogers lost yesterday. If he had bet just $52 dollars more on Final Jeopardy he would have won.

He seemed like a very good sport about it. Maybe relieved. Appeared to feel good for the winner.

But I think he was glad to qualify for the Tournament of Champions. If he had kept on winning and winning he would have had to wait until next year for the Tournament of Champions.
