I'm finding more and more amps that love this speaker. I've had a CRex in my main gigging amp (DRRI) and also my Blues Jr for years and really like the tone. Big low end and warm highs...you know the deal with the CRex.

3 years ago I bought a Supersonic 22 combo and swapped the stock spkr with a $200 English made Celestion Heritage G12H. At that time I compared the G12H to the stock Emi spkr, a Weber British Blue Dog, V30, and the CRex which was sitting in my DRRI. All speakers that I compared were in 1x12 open back cabs. I thought the G12H sounded best so that's what I went with.

But over the past year or so I've found the SS22 to be overly bright, a little thin and lacking low end, especially in the overdrive channel - even with the 1x12 closed back I use with it!

So today I "re-tested" the same speakers I compared 3 yrs ago with the SS22 and the CRex was the clear winner to my ears. With the CRex speaker I heard a much fuller, rounder sound with more bottom end and very smooth highs. I tried it clean and using varying levels of overdrive from the SS22's drive channel and from external dirt pedals thru the clean channel. I just ordered another CRex and will replace the G12H in a few days.

Funny how your ears hear things differently one day (or 3 years) to the next. I also think that 3 years ago I may have been trying to justify my $200 G12H purchase so I probably really "wanted" to put that spkr in the SS22.

The G12H is a great speaker! But not for this amp. I'll find a home for it somewhere for sure. Most likely in a closed back cab.

HUGE CRex fan! Glad I took the time to listen again...

My Fender "stacks" - soon to have the same speaker set up

This is one speaker that I've not owned - yet. I did have it's 10" cousin a few years ago and it was huge sounding for a 10.

I still remember Bill Machrone's description of this speaker on his site. "This speaker couldn’t make a harsh note if it tried and is beautifully balanced bottom to top. Super for creamy lead work."

That's why I put one in my BJR. Great, smooth speaker.
