Just a few days ago we had the thread about how Firefox had become a pain to use, but yesterday I found an article on the new Version 57. It's not so much an update as a complete re-think, hence the 'Quantum' name. I've been using the beta and it's the mutt's nuts.

Twice as fast as the old FF in bench tests, and uses 30% less RAM than Chrome. Apart from clearing out hundreds of bugs which were slowing it down, among various tweaks, the main piece of wizardry is that it can now make use of multiple processor cores in a multi-core machine. Apparently previous versions, and other browsers, only run on one core.

It looks good with a new interface design, and seems fast and stable. The update will be available November 14th, but the beta is here now. I've never gone for betas much, but this is glitch free and really nice to use.

Had a chance to beta that, but was too nervous to try it. May give it a try... been having issues with the current Firefox version for awhile.

Thanks for the heads up.

You're welcome. One slight problem, it disables extensions such as adblock plus, and according to the ABP forum you have to install the beta of that as well.

With Version 57 Firefox is rolling out a new technology for dealing with extensions which should make them more secure, and less likely to not work with subsequent updates to FF, but in the meantime extension developers have to catch up with V57.

Laptop, Windows 10. Haven't tried it on the phone yet, on Android, Chrome always seemed to work better than FF, and I've also been using Opera for its speed. Might be worth trying FF on Android again now.
