Rosewood, although you really can't go wrong with Oly White.

That said, I've had bad luck with rosewood boards on Strats and Teles. The best sounding have all had maple fretboards, thus my 3 maple board Strats.

Here's one with African rosewood... It sounds pretty beefy, too.

If you go with rosewood, I think you need black pickup covers, knobs, and switch and trem bar tips.

I was leaning toward rosewood and saw a photo of Gilmour's white Strat with a maple fretboard...

This doesn't have the green guard but this is why I like Oly white and rosewood. I removed the original maple neck and used it for another strat with Warmoth body.

Oly White + Mint Green + Maple looks gorgeous!

Well, I'll eventually end up with the combo of Oly White + Rosewood as well.

Along with Hendrix, I was going to mention George Harrison playing his white w/maple board Strat at the Concert for Bangladesh.

My ideal strat has always been White of any nature, and rosewood board. Looks like a working strat to me.

My JV Oly white Strat has a mint green guard, cream accessories, and a maple board not unlike the one I had throughout the 70's. So that's my vote.

^ I had a mint green on my JV Strat also. If I go back to SSS (it's HSS now) the mint green guard will go back on. It's a great look.

IMO the quintessential Stratocaster is Jimi's Oly White and maple neck ... how can one argue with that ?

Don't just go on looks. I recently changed the neck on my Oly White Jimmy Vaughn due to worn out frets on my original maple neck. I decided to go with rosewood for a change and I GOT a change - in tone and not in a good way. My favorite guitar became my least favorite due to it not sounding nearly as good as it did previously. Nothing else had changed.

I ended up having the frets crowned and put the maple neck back on it and now I'm happy again.

I used to not believe there was a noticeable tone difference between the two but now I'm a believer.

Both maple and rosewood LOOK good on a white Strat though.

There's a lot more to a neck than whether it's rosewood or maple. You may have experienced the same downgrade in tone with just another maple-boarded neck. In my experience, these things definitely vary from neck to neck, no matter what the material. Whether it's the density of the neck and its material, its shape (thickness, width, etc.), the frets, or whatever (personally...I don't really know), each neck (I find) makes a guitar sound different.

Consider yourself fortunate for having a neck that works well with the body it is on. I would never give such a good combination up and would continue to have the neck serviced in order to maintain the quality of tone.

My 2 cents...

I prefer the maple and especially a maple neck with a maple cap fretboard.

+1 stratcowboy.

I've had bad luck with rosewood boards. All my 3 Strats are all maple. That aside I've heard too many great sounding Strats (& Teles) with rosewood boards. In the end a good Strat is a good Strat.
