Anybody seen this, or the Remington 870 based equivalent?

It's basically a loophole gun - 12 gauge, 14” barrel and birdshead grip, no buttstock. It’s slightly over 26” long so the usual federal shotgun barrel length laws do not apply. It’s classified as a “firearm”, not a shotgun, handgun, SBS, AOW or whatever.

Very intrigued about these for a home defense gun, especially with those little 1.75” minishells.

I haven't checked, but I'd be very surprised if these are legal in CA. If they are, they probably won't be for long.

I've had a 500 ATP-6 for 30+ years and have found it to be a very decent tool, though not as compact as the Shockwave.

I half want the 870 version just to have.

It's not a practical weapon by any means, I'd rather have any decent handgun or semi-auto compact rifle over it.

I WANT one! I've been watching them for a while now. SOME distributors won't ship them to Illinois, even though I'm NOT anywhere near Chicago. They just say, "It's safer to just not ship there". I've shot a lot of shotgun from the hip at trap ranges just playing around and they CAN be controlled. The ultimate home defense weapon. Even with a 21" inch barrel on one of mine, it's still a long load to swing in a hurry. Mike

I've already got a Mossy 500 with an 18 inch barrel that I tuck away for HD -- not really interested in the Shockwave. I haven't even checked with Nanny Mass to see if we can be trusted with these.

But if I hear something in the middle of the night, I'm going for the G17 anyway.

That Shockwave would look badass carried a scabbard on a bike for a bit of that Terminator vibe.

This Shockwave? Me likey but me no buy. I like practical firearms and for me, not being Leonard Smalls, these make little sense.

What does Hickock 45 think?

Quite impractical, but much better than a verbal threat or a pointy stick during a dust-up.

My 500 ATP-6 has a full butt stock with a recoil pad. I don't think I'd enjoy shooting either the Shockwave or the 500 with the pistol grip that preceded it (whatever they called that).

These birdshead grip guns supposedly transmit recoil completely differently than pistol gripped shotguns. We’ll see.

I've shot NFA AOW versions with birdshead grips - much, much prefer them to a pistol-grip only gun. In spades.

And those weren't the fancy oversized ones they're using on these!

That said, I have a friend in the business who writes for one of the remaining mags and he spent a weekend with both the Shockwave and 870.

Said it was perfectly usable, but from the hip took practice to get decent with (and was the best way to run it in practical situations).

I like the looks of the Shockwave and considered it but my wife said “you aren’t going to blow holes in the walls.” 😉

The myth of the deterrent factor of a racking shotgun...is just that.

DO NOT RELY ON IT.

Someone has to know what it is, and react like YOU want in the worst of situations.

The biggest point of failure on a pump is when you cycle rounds.

Have one in the chamber ready to roll if the thing is out.

"The myth of the deterrent factor of a racking shotgun...is just that."

I beg to differ: it worked quite well for me once. I will agree however, that it's foolhardy to assume it will work every time, or even most of the time.

If a person jacks a round into the chamber, they certainly had better be prepared to follow through or they may find themself staring down the business end of their own weapon in very short order. You need to decide that you are ready and able to take that final step long before the actual situation arises. Otherwise, a firearm should never be introduced into the equation in the first place.

From looking around on the web, these have become the latest Barbie for men. I think it’s almost ideal as is.
