I remember the good ole days when social media consisted of logging into a public forum and watching the ban hammer DOB threads, people, and posts.

Having an infraction from a mod without being perma-banned was a badge of honor.

I remember the BBS's fondly and spent a fair share of time on them downloading programs etc.

I do not Twit, Book or anything related to SM (hehe) so thats my story. I just do not care to communicate that way.

My wife has Facebook. I do not. I constantly feel like the guy with the "kick me" sign on his back, when people she and I both know make remarks in person about something she posted that I was unaware of.
"Dude, that picture of you snoring in your lounger with the cat on your chest .... priceless!"

??There's a picture of me on Facebook??

Ooh, I wonder if Rob could arrange to modify the FDP to display when someone is typing a comment, so we could sit there with bated breath while they finish.

My observation is that social media has become a hysterical thought stampede.

I recently opened a twitter account (anonymous) so I could see some tweets that would have otherwise been closed. My observations are that

1) Twitter is a nightmare of flaming, doxxing, trolling, snarking and just massive unregulated, un-moderated BS. It is a complete hog heaven for trolls; they run rampant. As a boon to the mentally ill Twitter is unrivaled. The sentinel algorithms that ostensibly police language and such on Twitter are useless.

2) Like Facebook, many people apparently have unlimited time to be on Twitter all the time, or so it would appear by when and how frequently they post, as in multiple posts minute by minute throughout the day, with perhaps a few hours off during the night. It's kind of astonishing.

3) You would have to be really stupid to have an account using your real name, especially if you engage in any sort of controversial subject matters. It's a complete invitation to all the behaviors listed at #1 above, including stalking, harassment, etc.

Heh.

Dictionary.com: "Twit - Noun: twit; plural noun: twits
a silly or foolish person."

The name fits.

"Please click LIKE."

That is the most *pathetic* aspect of social media--and there are many.

My wife doesn't have an account on Facebook but she will hijack mine and converse with her relatives on my account. Gets me in hot water with in-laws that think I'm poking fun or smarting off at them.

People were always asking me why I didn't answer them on e-mails from work etc. a few years back. My wife would read the e-mails not realizing that they were set to erase after reading so I never got the darned things. I didn't care that she read them . Nothing real private or anything but I hated having customers think I was ignoring them.
We really have no secrets but man that steamed me. Passwords are your friend I guess.
