I am... that has nothing to do with it...

Thanks for asking... : )

I just do not feel that this is the way to go.

I do not think that politics should interfere with sports.

The two have never mixed well.

Quebec Nordiques are a prime example.

I couldn't agree more. Sports should be an escape from such things. Btw, as a kid, my favorite player was Yvan Cournoyer. The Hab's had so many great players in that era.

You gotta remember, in Montreal hockey is not a sport, it's at a level a little above a religion. Even the dynasty teams of the 70's had their detractors and armchair coaches & GM's, wondering why the team didn't win each series 4 straight, and why they didn't win every game 10-0. There will never be total hockey happiness in Montreal. If they win the cup this year the Gazette headline will be "What About Next Year?"
Look on the bright side Montrealer, at least you're not a Canucks fan

I do enjoy the sport but not to the extent described above, although the description is accurate. A long time ago, when I was a university student and did not have much money, I paid $5.00 for a standing room ticket. It was a birthday present from me to me. I had never been to a game in person. I was totally disappointed. The show was better on TV, heck, it was better on radio. So, since then, I do not spend my hard earned money on attending sports of any kind. Those guys make millions today. Good for them. But, it will not be my money.

So, I wish you all a great season. I hope teams do well and that fans enjoy. I will be listening to games but that is where it will end.

PS: Thank you Woody, thank you Cagey.

Name another game where every player carries three blades and a club, wears a helmet and body armor, shoots a six ounce chunk of vulcanized rubber at speeds in excess of 100 mph.

Soccer on ice indeed.

Flyers are moving the puck around well this preseason especially on the power play. It's going to be tough to decide who stays up with the team as they are all playing well.

Bryan Bickell news.

It probably took Bryan Bickell less than 17 seconds to decide how he wanted to officially retire from the NHL.

A source said Bickell will sign a one-day contract Wednesday with the Blackhawks so he can enter retirement wearing the Indian Head sweater he wore proudly during three Stanley Cup championships. Bickell played his last NHL game with the Hurricanes last April after being diagnosed earlier in the season with multiple sclerosis, a disease of the central nervous system.

Neither Bickell nor Hawks officials could be reached for comment Tuesday night but plans call for a news conference Wednesday where both sides will discuss the symbolic move.

I've said it before, I was a hockey fan until the North Stars went to TX.

I still can't wrap my head around the helmets and face masks. It is not the game I played as a youth.

Glad you all still enjoy it, but it left me behind years ago.

I hear you K4. I left the game for years. It was weird to see the game Euroed. (is that a word?)

The Beliveaus, Richards, and Cournoyers replaced by
Fedorovs, Ovechkins, and Markovs. And thats just the Russians, never mind the Swedes and Finns.

I spent the 80's in the Army shooting at Ivan shaped pop-up targets and being indoctrinated to kill all things Russian. I came home to Ivan in the NHL. It just wasn't right. And who'd thought I would every miss Frenchmen? Confusing times for me indeed.
But as our former beloved leader said on more than one occasion, my thinking has evolved. That along with the transformation of the Blackhawks organization, I'm back and enjoying it, helmets, masks, Russians and all.

I didn't realize the players that are no longer on the Pens, until last night's opener against the Blues. (Pens lost in OT.)

Key players such as Nick Bonino and Trevor Daily are playing elsewhere this season. I still miss Marc Andre Fleury too, but I knew he was playing for the expansion Las Vegas Knights.

I LOVED seeing the Pens' 5th championship banner being raised!
