CO2 ... is there anything it can't do?

I've been seeing promos for the new season of WD -- no Edd China.

WTF, Edd was the reason most everyone watched the show -- IMO, the best car show out there.

I did about fifteen seconds of sleuthing and found that Edd has 'splained what is going on.

WD without Edd is like Top Gear without Jeremy Clarkson -- Velocity is turning it into the same piece of crap as most of the rest of what's on the channel now.

I won't be watching.

Thanks Edd.

Yeah I read about this in the media a few months ago and was very disappointed. One of the few shows that I like to fill my DVR with and watch on the rare occasion that TV appeals.

I cannot imagine that it will be any good without big Edd, but I'll give it a chance. I thought it started downhill when they began filming in the US - the original UK stuff had more "charm" to me. But then as I grew up in the UK a lot of the older cars they fiddled with were very familiar. So I might not be typical of the viewers they now appear to be going after.

It's like The History Channel showing so-called 'reality' programs about pawn shops, mountain men, and the invention of caulk.

What a load non-entertainment and non-information.

There has not been a TV switched on in my house for 10 years, and I am here to tellya my life is WAY richer because of it.

Okay, I did make up that part about caulk.

Yeah reality = BS any more. Too bad about Edd . I like shows that are more technical in nature vs entertainment, but thats just me.

They rarely made money. On that basis the show was flawed.

"They rarely made money."

That really wasn't the point. They bought cool old cars that the average guy could afford and did a reasonable restoration to make them road worthy and presentable.

Most of us DIY wrench turners aren't flippers, we do it because we love the old cars or our own cars, and we want to keep them on the road -- we identify with the premise, so the show wasn't flawed at all.

Turning a profit is definitely in that concept.

The premise was flawed.

If it was called Fixer Uppers, maybe that would have made sense.

In case I didn't mention it, which I didn't, I enjoy the program. Especially when, as noted, there is a cool older car on.

Particular highlight for me would be the Jensen Interceptor, and the trip to Cali for the VW Karmann Ghia was pretty cool.

NSRadio, I agree with your analysis of the show.

When you watch the other Velocity/Discovery car shows It is really amazing what the garages featured can do to restore/restomod the autos they work on. For a six figure investment the result is way beyond what the average guy can afford.

With Wheeler Dealers, Edd described what was wrong with the vehicle they were working on, you got a good idea of costs and what was involved to correct problems, and the vehicles involved were in just about everyone's price range. It was a good "blue collar" show.

They never included labor costs in their expense of restoration. They lost on every project and the show succeeded only from advertiser funding.

It was a BS program with a typical used car hustler and a decent mechanic who was obviously instructed to keep his mouth shut about the obvious.

I would have preferred the guy, whose name I do not recall.. maybe Mike ? would have left and Edd could have carried on with someone else less repulsive.

However, the program certainly beat most of the American car trash shows.. such as Fast and Loud.. what a collosal jerk.

I quite like Chasing Classic Cars.

We trade cars, and always have, so my view is always towards making a profit.

I would love to get into the higher level vehicles, but that is some very short grass to chew.

"It was a BS program"

JFC -- yeah, we get it -- their projects didn't make money. This was one of the few shows that showed an actual mechanic doing mechanic stuff rather than some bimbo in yoga pants unpacking an alternator while mentioning the manufacturer's name and web address as she cuts away to another commercial.

And yes -- Brewer is a wank, but he obviously appeals to some of the WD audience -- I suspect those who don't own a toolbox.

Another reason I'm glad I cut the cord last year. I really liked the early episodes in the UK.

As for Clarkson, the Grand Illusion or whater they call it became a parody of the BBC show.

Move along, nothing to see here.

Edd really *is* Wheeler Dealers. Without him it will be that show in name only. Edd was very good at sussing out problems and explaining how to fix them in a way that even a non wrench turner like me could look at and think hm, if I had the tools I could probably do that.

Velocity has a disturbing tendency to ruin car shows. Look at what they did when they rebooted Overhaulin'.

If you want to see a warts and all in depth show on building and renovating cars, (and other things like helicopters), Mark Evans "A .... Is Born" series is hard to beat.

Brewer is a twit.

Edd was the show.

I liked it even knowing their $ math was a fiction.

Velocity will one again take a good thing and ruin it.

But Brewer will make coin.

Overhaulin', got "overhauled" and it is worse for it.

The creepy, cutesy, talky talky guy about ruins it for me. Add to that the cutesy talky talky requisite female. Useless.

Another two worsts in American auto TV is the MoPar idiot in Oregon and the American version of Top Gear. Unwatchable.

I believe I saw a bit of the new Wheeler Dealers and it couldn't hold my interest for 2 minutes.
