Firstly I hope everyone is safe down Florida way.

I went to see Albert and Cindy Saturday night in San Diego, Small hall, great venue. It was interesting as I checked my cellphone at dinner on the way down and had a text from a friend visiting Carlsbad who bumped in Albert earlier in the day while having lunch. Small world.

Albert has lost nothing. One of my favorite guitarists period. His chicken pickin and blues licks are just awesome. He is also a great piano player. His version of "Highwayman" brought chills. Vocs were spot on.

Cindy is one great lap/console steel player. Quick, accurate and tasty licks all evening long.

For a small hall the mix was a bit off. Albert's vocs where slightly buried and they didn't bring up Cindy's lead parts as they should have but it was still a show to remember. That's what I get for being a sound guy too, always the critic of a mix.

If Albert comes to a venue near you, go see him. If Cindy is with him...double bonus!

My GF and I spent a little time with Albert and Cindy after the show out front. Pretty girls like my GF have a way of getting us behind the autograph table for some quality time. Both artists are very humble, warm and real folks. It was a great night.

I've seen Cindy and Sonny Landreth in concert. It was quite magical.

Love Albert Lee's playing, but haven't cared for his tone for several years.

In stark contrast, I loved his tone and playing on Marylou Harris' "Luxury Liner" which I assume was a Tele.

I have to say I loved his tone Saturday night. He played on of his signature Music Man guitars (SSS) through a Fender ToneMaster head and a 4-12 Fender cab. Straight in and what looked like a rack mount delay sitting between the head and cab.

He had a very clean sound but would hair it up a bit with the volume control on the guitar for solos. His tone really didn't vary all night but is was so good that didn't bother me at all. Thick clean twang is how I would best describe it. Masterful use of the volume control and the wang bar too for that matter. He may have stayed in the "Quack" positions 2 & 4 a bit much but the sound fit the music. I really enjoyed his tone.

Cindy is playing with the Amy Helm Band (Levon's daughter) in my town tonight, but I'm at rehearsal. :(
