In Maine for the week, it was a rainy day, so went to GC and picked up an iRig. I brought a guitar and headphones, so that's been the only use, but it seems to work pretty well. The iPhone came with GarageBand, so no need to get the Amplitude models. GarageBand has 9 amp models and about 10 stomp boxes, plus a series of presets, so a lot to play with.
When I get home I'll try it through amps as well as just a powered speaker, but it certainly is totally usable as a backup system.

My latest iPhone came with GB and I was wondering how to go about using that.

^ Very simple. Plug the iRig into the phone, plug your guitar into the iRig, plug in your headphone or speaker or amp into the iRig, then open GB. That's it.

There are complaints that Amplitude only provides a couple amps and stomp boxes, that you have to then buy anything additional. Not an issue with GarageBand. Plenty there ready to go.
