On further reflection my earlier post was a little harsh. I was thinking of one particular guy I took some classes with. He was a pretty good guitarist and had a rocking band that worked a lot. He was just so "corporate" in class and when I saw his band, his wild and crazy stage outfit was wearing colorful All Stars. Whoa...freaky, man!

I wore them in HS for basketball until the Pro-Keds came along.

I wore red ones in college, nothing but. I usually had three pairs in rotation: 1 old pair for mowing the lawn, one not-so-old pair for school and screwing around, and a new pair for dates and such.

A friend of mine who used to run marathons wore Chucks to run his first marathon. Can't imagine that.

^ It's a combination of youth and mind over matter. If you don't mind it doesn't matter.

OK, until you blow out your arch for lack of support. ;-)

They looked huge when I wore a 13 as a teenager. Now that I wear a 15...well, clown feet isn't the look I'm going for these days..l

Back in the '80s or '90s one of the guitar magazine had a full=page photo of Jeff Beck sitting in a chair with his guitar, a pair of pink Converse All-Stars on his feet. Pink!

I've got three pairs, but I never wear them coz they're so flat and uncomfortable.

Still think they are classics.

Henry, my almost 18 year old wears the pink ones to be ironic. I hope...

Chris, I have a pink shirt I wear to church occasionally. With a pink tie. Actually makes me feel more masculine, like someone confident in his masculinity.

I started to put "pink dress shirt," but some FDPer's eyes would have just seen "pink dress."

The thread was titled "fans".

I guess maybe a couple here.
So my curiosity was the 70s version.
Evidently double quality, double price.
They arrive soon. I will report to the fans.

Henry, I have a couple pink shirts (oxford cloth button downs) not to mention a pair of Nantucket reds in long and shorts versions. But I wouldn't wear them with a pink tie! Oh, and I use rose shaving cream in my rotation.

Nantucket red is a nice color. Especially nice as a Nantucket sweatshirt color :-).

CG, I did have some salmon shorts that I wore with my topsiders back in the day. Now I am going with the skinny jeans/Chucks routinely.

I was in a Converse outlet many years ago (maybe in MA). They had one of Bob Lanier's Chucks from his NBA days in a glass display case.

Size 22!!

Thing looked like it should've been on wheels.

Back in my Foot Locker days when I was in school, we had one of the Shaquille O'Neal signature series Reeboks in his size, coincidentally also a 22. It was HUGE.

I tried it on, over my size 14 sneaker, and it fit without issue. One of the female employees managed to get BOTH her feet into it.

Haven't had a pair of Converse of any kind since about '69 when I discovered Adidas Superstars. The French made ones from the '70s were the best ever. Chuck Taylors were obsoleted by Adidas, IMO. Still wear the Superstars though the giant foam arch supports from back in the day are only a memory.

"Chuck Taylors were obsoleted by Adidas, IMO."

That was my experience as well albeit a few years later. But by that time I was into harness boots and only wore sneakers for sports and gym. In between the Chucks and Adidas I wore the Lou Brock designed Converse "The closest thing to spikes" as I was a baseball nut. Plus the red soles were cool. All that said, I wore out and out-grew a bunch of Converse. Mostly in blue.

If I ran across a pair of Chucks in black with black rubber I'd try them on and probably buy them in the felt ok.

My wife and I were shoe shopping the other day. Saw some "Chucks" ..
(She was in the rag and shoe trade for 25 years.. big time buyer and exec) She commented.. "what overpriced trash".
We agree on at least one thing. Well, that and Levis.
