The more I am tempted, the more I shop. The head seems like it would be the model for me. What cinches the deal? The internal speaker.

He's on tour with a band for a couple of days, so I'm enjoying a cooling off period. I'll say something here if I jump on it.

Guitar center seems to have several of them used already. Not great discounts as they can't be too old. Seems odd to me but I'm pretty satisfied with the 50. I was afraid the 100 would be way too much.

This is all very tempting, frankly. However, in the last few days I've used the $$$ for various hurricane, disaster and earthquake donations. It'll have to wait...

I think they're still making more of 'em... ;-/)

I received my Katana head today and I will say that I pretty impressed.

However I want to test out everything before submitting my full review.

Stay tuned.

May be a stupid question but it wouldn't be my first...
Why is the 100 head $20 more than the 100 1x12 combo?

A case of they'll sell less, it has the internal speaker, and additional capacity for those who want MIDI.

Good question. Really don't know why they do this. It has an added presence control, midi out, and the internal speaker. I guess $20 more for these features ain't bad.

But the fact that there is less a cabinet and good 12" speaker should outweigh the price.

In any case if you have external cab/cabs the head is worth it. I just ordered an amp stand to accommodate both. See stand link below.

I will give a full review of pro's and cons of this amp in the coming days. I will tell you up front though that it's a great amp.

Has anyone done the update yet? I probably won’t be able to until I’m back from my honeymoon at the end of the month.

Was just in a local store yesterday: on Oct. 1 prices on these amps went up $20 each: the Katana 50 is not $219 and the Katana 100/112 is now $349, etc. ...

NAD for me! I picked up a Katana 100 (and the footswitch) today> Got a great deal - amp for $295; footswitch for $89 (around 10% off the old MAP price).

I'll have a chance to try it out some more tomorrow, and will use it next Sunday in worship... but it sounds so good, it will be replacing my Mesa Express Plus 5:25.

I tried one out. Honestly I had a hard time dialing in any decent tone. It seems to me the gain channel was awfully fizzy and buzzy for my taste. But admittedly I didn't really crank it either.

The new update is excellent ! A lot of new features and sounds. It's almost like getting the amp again with the new stuff to play around with.

A Boss rep has indicated that, in order to get the full advantage of the EL-34 tube-like power stage/speaker interaction, one should turn the master up high, set the gain to taste, and then use the channels volume control to get the desired level.

Some people feel that one might need to set the powerful EQ differently than you may normally expect and be used to, in order to get the best sound. In other words, perhaps don't necessarily start with your standard Bass-Middle-Treble-Presence settings but rather use your ears only and see how all these controls can interact with one another as you sweep through various settings.

I agree with Mike.....the upgrade is easy and the extra presets are handy. The rest of the.upgrades I haven’t tinkered with yet other than to see the menus and see if I hadn’t screwed something up. It even saved the presets I had on the amp.

I can see there's a learning curve (for me anyway) with this thing, but I'm gonna make it work. Played with it some cranked a little in our sanctuary this morning - mostly cleans, and then punching in the pedals on my board. Sounds better the more you turn it up - that didn't used to be true with solid state amps.

I do have a question: I mentioned I bought the GA-FC footswitch. In the amp owner's manual (page 6), it says there should be a couple of stickers for the footswitch to rename the six buttons on the footswitch. I can't find these stickers anywhere - anyone else get these...or not?
