Must say, the new Artist model looks very desirable to say the least.

Yeah, I have both, and I'd say go for the 100 if you can swing it/find a good deal.

Extra features like lights on the clean, crunch, lead, etc. settings is nice, and it has a Presence control and the extra preset locations. The four button footswitch (sold separately, around $85-99) also gives much better control for live use.

Yeah, the rotary decoders have gone wonky. It's been getting that way for a while now. Today I lost some models.

I don't wanna be a thread-pooper... but I will a little. ;-)

I'm going to look at the new Vypyr for a few reasons.

1. I already have a Sanpera footswitch.

2. The new Vypyrs also have bass amp models. I have a bass and no bass amp. And we have limited space here. I only use bass for home recording. So I don't need much of a bass amp. Just something to practice through.

3. I *really* enjoyed my old Vypyr. All the years I played it I never got tired of the tones. I really like TransTube.

I'm going to look at the smallest Vypyr this time around. The 75 was a *BIG* 1x12 combo. Space is at a premium here.

Does the VYPYR also have an acoustic "model" or channel?

Seems like Peavey was making an amp (if not the VYPYR) that could be used for all three: acoustic, electric and bass...

Yes... that is the latest Vypyr line.

But I just went to the local music store and was swayed by something else in their used amps. I'm busy modding it now. New thread to follow.

And I still need a bass amp.

Katana 100 Head here. Question: If you set delay beyond half way, using all modes (Digi, Analog, Tape Echo) - Do you find the decay a bit spotty? Mine seems to get fizzy beginning around the 3rd or 4th repeat or sometimes they just end in a too-abrupt stop. Curious if anyone else is getting this?

After buying and trying out a BUNCH of expensive high gain tube heads, I believe the "Brown" channel on the Katana sounds better than all of them, particularly when it comes to note clarity in chords.

NOTE - I didn't try out the Friedman BE head because I was afraid it would make over $3,000 jump out of my wallet. I don't want to spend that much! (:oD

Broke Down

in the Brassicas
Feb 21st, 2018 04:21 PM   Edit   Profile

I just got a 50W. Friend of mine with connections in two different music stores received two by mistake so rather than sending one back I was offered one at a heavy discount which I couldn't refuse.

First impressions are great. Very usable clean and crunch modes and I even got into brown and played some Santana riffs. (Don't know what else to do with it! :-)) The tone controls came set at 12 o'clock and I didn't touch them, just plugged in and played out of the box.

Really liked the plate reverb. At the moment I don't know how to change even the top-level settings like delay time but I'm sure that will be easy and I'm going to enjoy some deeper tweaking. Some of the effects seemed a bit digital-glassy at first listen so it will be interesting to see if they can be tamed.

I mostly bought it for the aux in and headphone out functions so I can practice in the evenings. But it's loud as well.

vomer, nice catch on that deal...

...and there's nothing wrong with some Santana licks! ("Samba Pa Ti," anyone?)
