There should be para EQ and various EQ options in the software.

Very tempted by the Katana head. Has anyone tried the DI out to a desk for live use? The manual says it's OK, but seems to show unbalanced jack plugs in the diagram. I guess I'd need a DI box, which is OK, but what does the speaker emulation sound like?

I’ve decided that, if my Vypyr 75 ever dies, one of these will replace it. Probably the head version.

Shouldn't need a DI box unless you're running something weird.

Speaker emulation will be derived from the GT-100 and be quality enough for most recording, let alone live situations.

In especially the new .v2 firmware upgrade, the Katana has a significantly improved speaker/cabinet simulated out. This affects the Recording/Headphone Out jack, the USB out and the Line Out jack (on the 100 watt).

It adds a section in Tone Studio to adjust the "Line Out Air Feel" on the above outs with settings for "Recording", "Live" or "Blend". These appear to adjust close or room miking techniques.

There is also a new setting for "Cabinet Resonance" with settings for "Vintage", "Modern" and "Deep". These apparently affect both the Rec/Line/USB outputs, as well as the actual live speaker sound from the Katana.

Both these new settings can be used together in various combinations to get a really good sound. The new global EQ setting in .v2 can really tailor the sound, too.

Who's using a Mac to tweak their Katana, and who's using a non-Mac PC?

I used to have a Mac but gave it to my son when his computer died...so I'll be tweaking mine with one of my PC's...

I use a Win 7 PC to access the Tone Studio & upgraded to V2. Just download drivers and you're off. So far all I've really done is mess with different fx and presets. 'Muff Fuzz' and 'Wave Synth' are fun. Also enjoying some of the Blues presets. Wish there were a few 'country' presets available and hope a few of these will be added soon.

Yea, the Tone Studio software is stable and works fine on Win 7- same thing they used for the GT-001/100/etc.

If you want country patches, look for them for the GT-100, then use the GT-100 Floorboard editor to import them/export them to what the Katana Floorboard (not Tone Studio) can read.

I like my Katana 50 "as is" and doubt I'll bother with the software upgrade. (It's just one of several amps I own.)

69tele,

The KTN 50 has a USB input and a "Phones/Record Out" according to the manual, but not a "Line Out" like the KTN 100. Hope that helps.

"I guess I'd need a DI box"

No DI necessary. Even though it's an unbalanced connection, it's a line-level (not mic-level) signal. So it won't pick up noise like a mic-level signal through an unbalanced connection.

Thanks Peegoo. Maybe a DI box for a long cable run? We use a 100 foot multicore for most gigs.

Remember, in the Katanas, (50 and 100) plugging a cord into the Rec/Phones Out cabinet-simulated jack turns off sound from the speaker.

In the Katana 100, there is also a Line Out cab-sim jack which, when used, will not shut off the speaker. (although it is not affected by the Master Volume setting, so you could still turn down the actual speaker volume to zero if you want)

Is it my imagination, or did the Katana 50 1x2 just jump up $20 to $219.99?

Yes, prices went up in August or September, I think...

... I still got my KTN 100 around 3/4 weeks ago at the "old" price, plus my "good guy" discount - I think my price was around $296 (see earlier in this thread).

Funny thing: I've been playing this amp for the past month while my only surviving tube amp in on consignment, and I'm not missing tubes at all. Maybe I'm going deaf, but I don't think so...

Think I am gonna pickup the 50 1x12 amp at GC, I know they do not come with a footswitch so can I use a fender switch to change from clean to whatever? I only have enough cash laying around to buy the amp at the moment. They are the $219 price here.
