When I bought my Casino Elite in 2003, I paid $849 @ EM Shorts, brand spanking new. Shorts is generally a little cheaper than the big box music stores and I think the Casino Elites were going for $899 then. Price now is $2,199.99! What justifies a price disparity like that? I know we've suffered from inflation but good grief!

Realistically a combo of increased costs - Japan isn't a cheap place to make anything these days - and what the market will bear.

Consider also the fetishization of Japanese guitars by the younger demographic here as well, and the deep pockets of the boomer group..and no surprise.

The 3 best playing necks of guitars that I've owned were all Japan Epiphones: A Lennon Revolution Casino, an Elitist Dot 335, and my current Elite (yes Elite) Les Paul Standard.

That said I wouldn't pay today's prices for a Casino Elitist.

I love my '07 Elitist Casino. It's the pups that do it for me. Very snarly. JL would approve.

I wouldn't either unless they went back to the open book headstock and nitro finish of the 1st few years. Then, I might be able to justify it if I didn't already have an Elite. (Yes, Elite. :o)

As near as I can tell, there are no retailers in AUS that even stock the "elitist" range anymore.

In 2013 they were going for over $3k here.
I can only imagine a market for an Epiphone in that price range would be slim. (no matter how nice they may be)

However, I would say the $200-$700 Epi's gets a fair slice of the pie. (played my modded $200 LP Special II this morning!)

When I bought my Casino Elite in 2003, I didn't even know what an "Elite" was. I don't even know why I picked it up. When I did, I marveled at how light it was, then how effortlessly it played. Unplugged it was still alive. I didn't know it had Gibson hardware & pickups until after I bought it. All I knew what regardless of brand it was one of the best guitars I had ever picked up. It "fit me". I agonized over paying $849 for a stinking Epiphone but I did. After I got it home, researched it a bit and plugged it in, I knew I had unwittingly made a wise choice! It will no doubt be sold after my funeral, but not likely before! The Elite/Elitist series "is all that" in my opinion. The most perfect, balanced, versatile, playable guitar I own.

FWIW, the John Schofield Ibanez I recently bought is giving me a similar vibe. I am learning to not get hung up on a brand/name.

If it does what you want, the name or "lower" price doesn't matter.

I play my $300 Squiers as much as my $2k Gibson, and have stuff all in between.

They all do specific things that I like them for, and that's all that matters in the end!
