EA6B, you will be very happy with the sound of a tele. I have switched over from strats recently and not only do I love em and own 5 now...this conversion sparked a new desire in me to play.

They come in lots of different flavors too.

Aw man, I pulled the trigger. Through the FDP link of course. Ultimately it came down to the fact that this is a $699 guitar for 579! Cheaper than a standard MIM but with an Ash body and a maple neck/fingerboard that I've always wanted. Oh, and cherry sunburst!

Now to thin the herd...

Nice! Congrats on your first tele too.

The pickups in the MIM Teles are the "Hot Standard Tele". They're ceramic bar (not a bad thing. some love 'em, some not) They're not a "vintage" sounding pickup, but might suit you depending on what you're after.

FWIW, if you miss the strat neck tone, I can recommend the Fender Twisted Tele neck pickup. It's like hybrid of strat & tele neck tones. I love it.

Have fun!

I have both the Am Std and the 52 RI with the mini SD's.

For the last couple years the '52 and DRRI is the "go to rig'. I wanted to be able to get some drive out of the neck pickup. But frankly the hot bridge pickup cuts pretty well. The neck has a glossy finish that feels great.

I think they just made that guitar for a few years as a custom shop model. My only complaint is that sometimes it's hard to flip the pickup selector switch from bridge to neck position when it's so close to the volume knob. I think they should spread out a bit. At some point I'm gonna have the control plate reversed.

But the tone is the best thing I've ever heard on any guitar.

This guy does a nice job of a demo.

If you're going to have one Tele you did well going ash body/maple fingerboard. Save the rosewood board for your next Tele, which of course you'll be getting. :)

Not my first though, I had a Nashville I sold a while back. Didn't have a Tele vibe!

I hear you. I had a Nashville Power Tele. There was just something weird about it. Well duh!

Arrived today. UPS had it scheduled for Tuesday, but it was delivered today! Ordered Tuesday and arrived today, not bad at all considering they didn't ship it until Wednesday.

Gorgeous. Played it for a bit, but other commitments call. Love the maple neck, my first!

So if I wanted an ashtray cover for this, what and where would I get it? I want to use it in some photos.

Thanks.

Congratulations, you won't regret it. There have been lots of memorable phrases on FDP over the years about what makes a Tele so great. My favourite is probably "if the army gave you a guitar it would be a Telecaster". Exactly: there's nothing on it that doesn't have a function. Except an ashtray bridge of course, but your model will take one if you insist, as it has the vintage lip around the plate to hold one in place.

I consider the Tele with ash body and maple fretboard the ultimate statement guitar. Nothing cuts through the mix like that combo with the right amp, especially if you're going to be doing a lot of soloing.

Just recently I messed around with the pickup height on my 2012 maple neck 2 tone ash Tele. Never gave it much thought till I read a Fender article about setting up a Tele properly and noticed their recommended pickup height settings. Mine was no were near these settings, in fact they probably couldn't go much lower. No wonder why the guitar had no volume or grit.

After raising them up to their suggested height, I played with a little higher and lower settings and finally found the sweet spot. What a huge difference this has made. This guitar feels so good to play and it can do anything. No matter what pickup combination I select on this guitar it just sounds great.

Wish I had done it a long time ago, it finally sounds like a Tele should. It's like having a new guitar. It is without a doubt the best sounding guitar I own. Don't think I could ever part with it now.

OK, this has become mu number one guitar! I've got to replace the strings now since the B string is starting to sound weird. I checked MF and Fender to see what strings are on here, but no info was to be found. I'm guessing 9's, can anyone confirm?

Thanks.
