FDP Forum / Amp Mods, Repairs, and Projects / Input jack replacment for a Fargen Mini Plexi ?

First of I'm very impressed with the build quality of this amp. Ben Fargen has certainly done his homework with all high quality components for the most part.

However, the head scratcher is why he choose to use these cheap plastic jacks as well as plastic composite tube sockets ?

Oh well.

It seems the input jack on this amp is broken and will need to be replaced. I'm thinking this most likely will be a pretty generic item and was curious our sponsors might carry it, and what part number I should be looking for ?

I've got an email into Ben, but seeing as he's a one man shop, it may be awhile before I get a response.

Thanks folks !

That looks like what he has used. Marshall used Cliff Jacks. Part #S-H901 from the same supplier. They are a bit tougher.

I am also a bit miffed why that was used. Just mounted in a thru-hole with no support it certainly is a failure waiting to happen. I'd probably convert it to Switchcraft shorting jacks if it were my amp then never see this failure again. The only rub would be if he doesn't want the jack/signal ground connected to the chassis.

Here's a gut shot of the amp.

90% quality build with the exception of the jacks and tube sockets !

I'm going to order one of those Cliff jacks as well.

I like the idea of going to the Switchcraft, but want to keep this thin as close to stock for the customer as I can.

The Weber kits I built always came with those plastic jacks. I always subbed them out with the ones like you have linked.

Those tube sockets are actually not too bad. I've never seen an issue with them. Weber uses or used some Chinese sockets that drove me nuts a while back. At the time they put the lowest cost everything in their kits. 6g16 build. I had an oscillation I had hard time finding until while poking with a chop stick for about the 10th time found this bad socket by accident actually! This is after the scope and many voltage measurements. I replaced every socket in the build.
