"New" Burstdriver Les Paul Standard with built in overdrive. Reminds me of the old Electra MPC LP copies. For the price, I'd rather they invest in better build quality.

I don't get Gibson either with such stuff.

My Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro II has a boost feature. I've yet to try it out and don't plan to either. I already have an Xotic EP boost on my board.

I do like the locking tuners and coil split features on the Trad Pro II, at least they're useful.

That circuit and battery weigh less than any wood that it took up in space!

They could've at least got the battery compartment lined up with the back plate.

That is just goofy.

How did that ever get past the bar-napkin-sketch stage? I own a few very nice Gibsons and I love 'em.

But this is doofus behavior.

My remark was pretty much tongue-in-cheek.

Or,maybe, "tongue-in-control-cavity"...

If the Burstdriver is the answer, what was the question?

I'm guessing most people who could afford this have a few nice stomp boxes. If the quality of the on board drive equals or surpasses what the foot has access to, then they'd really have to sell me on what magic lies with pinky control between 0-10 on the mojo push/pull pot.

You never know.

Norm Greenbaum played a Telecaster with an onboard fuzztone to record the rhythm parts for Spirit in the Sky.

For $5K that's got to be one of the most poorly designed method for adjusting the effect I could imagine. Honestly, what a lousy way of adjusting an effect. I'd pass on that as an option on a $200 guitar.
They may claim you can adjust it with a pick, but from the photo it looks like it'd have to be a very pointed pick...

I can see that it might be nice to have a built in overdrive for showing up at a jam, plugging straight in and having some grit at your disposal without messing with a pedal board..... but I probably wouldn't use a $5,000 guitar for that.

I think the deeper issue is that many change their od pedals like their underwear. You know... once a week.

It would be hard to do if it's in the guitar.

Did they do any market research on this at all? Who wants this? Like Coral Head says, anybody who can afford this would already have nice pedals. Anybody who would need something like this as a grab-n-go would never toss around a $5K+ guitar. Makes no sense.

Yikes,

It looks like, from the photos of the back plate/control cover, that you have to set everything up in advance! Level, gain, tone behind the guitar. The push/push switch just turns it on and off?

Old school, been there. Not great for gigging.

Gibson is all about gimmick these days. Robo tune, zero frets, PC board & no hand wire over-priced tinker toy stuff. Who is attracted to this stuff?

Not really that different than having a preamp boost in a Strat, though, is it?

I agree, it's pretty pointless here.

I'm pretty much a traditionalist at heart. But I do have some modern technology that gets me those tones.

I bought a new LP Standard this year and that is one of my examples. It has the circuit board. But honestly, the guitar sounds great.

There are PCB tube amps that sound great too. I have two.

Sometimes the modern technology serves well. I take it where I find it.

But no. I won't be buying one of these. ;-)

As a side note. I think that this particular feature would have been more at home in the Tribute line or maybe the Studios. Not such an expensive instrument.

I wonder how much of the market we (the FDP) don't understand. There are a lot of musicians that aren't members here. Food for thought.

"There are a lot of musicians that aren't members here."

Yeah, but they don't count.

;-)
What we need is a Gibson with a robo truss rod/action adjustment. It analyzes your playing and makes the necessary tweaks. It texts you when it needs fretwork. Maybe even verbally admonish you for not playing enough.
