Fender...never say never.

Have gone a bit over the top lately looking for bass amps to inspire me to continue staying active in playing and gigging.

It all started two years ago with the purchase of a Fender Bassman Hybrid 500W, followed closely by a 1986 GK-400RB.

Recently I purchased an Ampeg PF-50T all-tube 50 watter.

So far, so good. I like them all.

Now, along comes a Fender Rumble 500W head. My goodness! May be the best yet. Bang for the buck, it sounds terrific, at least here at the house.

This weekend, the trial period kicks up a notch with an outdoorsy winery gig with two loud geetar slingers and three sets of that nasty old blues music we all know and love.

One-four-five till the cows come home.

More later.

One or the other or both of two Fender cabs.

A Fender Rumble 15 and a Fender Pro Series 15.

Not the best cabs on the market but plenty enough for my needs and good value for the bucks.

I play Fender Precisions exclusively.

What is your impression of the overdrive circuit? I'd like to be able to get a touch of grit at times.

As you know, grit is a matter of individual taste. I'm not a big grit guy and yet I get plenty of what I need and it's capable of a lot more.

The amp is equipped to deliver many different tones and has taken me some time and trail and error to learn all that it will do. Clearly, it was and is engineered this way to appeal to a broad spectrum of players.

Inside all this variety, I've found certain places on the dial where I like to hang out.

I am fortunate enough to work with several Fender Precisions I treasure and both have the amazing ability to make almost anything sound good.

I've helped a couple of guys at my church into new bass amps - a Fender Rumble 40 and a 100 model. Both astonishing value, sound great, super lightweight.

Easy to see the accolades heaped on them. Heck, thinking of picking one of these up myself - but which? Hmmm ...

Glad to hear you feel that way, Neil. I just ordered a Rumble 100 during a Labor Day sale. Wanted something I could easily take to a living room jam or practice with. Can't wait to play with it.

Perfect for that application. I use mine at wineries, small venue gigs, jam sessions.
