"Good buying opportunities for me."

Yup. This would be the time to stock up on the old frozen concentrated orange juice.

Perspective..... Just 6 years ago the market was at 12,000. Even at 24,000 you are still on the good side. Don't panic sell stay calm and think long term.

"Something to do with interest rates/inflation? "

Right, which stems from good economic news overall.

I don't see it a particular opportunity, other than continued payroll deductions in and twice a year rebalancing and a slow move away from stocks. My retirement funds are aggressive right now but I have cash too.

Only down 160 or so, so far.

That's the Dow. Dow not a very good index, not weighted by capitalization of the individual companies like all the others are.

"I swore I wasn't going to look at my accounts this afternoon. But I did. Ouch."

I try not to look also, I'm young enough where I've been told that I should just keep dumping money into my IRA, it'll go up and down, but by the time retirement comes, it will have paid off.

I don't know if that's correct or not, but that's what I have been told.

Nonetheless, I still look. Despite the huge number losses I took Friday and yesterday, my accounts are down 0.16% year to date. So I guess I didn't "lose" that much of what I have put in, just what I had earned.

It will correct itself in the long run. Not that I have any idea what I am saying or what that means, but that's what I hear.

The Dow opened under 24K today so the required 10% correction value has been reached. So the knife has stopped falling but will be bouncing around for a little while before people try to pick it up. We should see a rise but not to previous levels. People who are scared and want to get out just want their money back. As the market hits those levels they will sell. So I would safely say that the highs for the year are already in the books.

If you are so certain you are arranging your portfolio today to exactly correspond with that. Right? :)

I'm sad for those that panicked and made all the wrong moves. Like that guy on the highway changes lanes every two seconds and arrives at the off ramp at the same time as you.

Of course hindsight is 20/20, but a week or so ago the pundits were saying we were "due" for a pullback and that a 10% correction would be 'good for the market". Reminds me of January two years ago. Then it was oil prices. Seems like the big money managers go nudge, nudge, wink, wink and tank the market to their benefit. Of course, I didn't get the memo. I'm just riding it out.

At today's market close my portfolio is where it was last October. Less contributions and dividends since. Lol
