Irrational exuberance? I don't know, I'm staying in either way as there are not any great alternatives. We need some gains just to stay even, if possible, because our money buys less and less all of the time. I don't care what they say the inflation rate is, all I have to do is look at prices for, well pretty much anything. Look at houses, new autos, or for a shock, check out boats! Dang, boats are selling gangbusters at ridiculous prices, AND lots of makers have a waiting list. Or just check your groceries. Yikes! Glad that at least gas is affordable now.

like anything else. it won't last forever...

but after some thought, I figure this thread will get derailed and take a nose dive....

the Stock Market is good news and it's not being reported on

but I'm at the point of not caring anymore.... I'm tired of being manipulated and lied to by the news media that is supposed to report the news as it is, with no bias....

I'm happy. My retirement is fully funded. Now I'm just riding the wave to shore up a few extras like paying off my house and Funding a new car and a new BMW GS1200

My guess is will stay strong until there's an alternative or the people who can crash the system decide to for whatever nefarious reasons. In spite of the terrific gains, I'm only maybe 25% in the market currently with other forms of investments getting the lion's share. I tend to prefer hard assets (not gold and silver) these days.

Not that I give financial advice anymore but if I did, I'd tell people to be out of debt, have cash reserves, and be diversified in the things you invest in. Live simply, drive used cars, eat at home, buy stuff that lasts. Become the millionaire next door.

It's not supposed to, it just pretended in the post-war era that it did.

Pretended is the key word.

Just had a meeting with our financial guy yesterday. Our investments are doing ok but like everyone else, the bottom could drop out.
I was hoping to have a little more at this point but we are at 110% of our original goals when we went with this guy/company.

I am not including the inheritance I will get from my parents. That will really give us a boost.

Uhm....we had a bit of a lost decade or so, so things are evening out.

About doubled since 1999.

I think being "in the market" should be an essential part of a successful plan. Investing has been automatic, easy, and worked well for me. However, one needs to be able to use other means to avoid further depleting capital when the market is down. Cash, income producing property, development real estate, and yes, precious metals add balance and backup.

I'm a bit behind my scheduled "extra" contributions in addition to the SEP IRA because I keep thinking it's going to come crashing down but I know financially that's a mistake for a "young" person.

The VIX volatility index is the lowest since the 1990s.

My retirement funds are all stocks. Until a couple weeks ago I moved 5% to a bond fund. I am now sleeping well!

The main reason I did this is because I will be 57 soon and I need to move away from equities. That the markets are near peak was secondary, but served as a prod against my procrastination. I am aiming for 90-10 by the time I am 60, barring any life changing events.
