Lots of turbulence ahead. Probably some bidding up on Friday AM, then sell-offs Friday PM. Nobody wants to get stuck Monday AM. Those 3% dividends that were good a few years ago are now looking shakier as interest rates creep up. Just got a 1 year CD at 1.8%

It’s down 10% from it’s all time highs, which is a “market correction”. Not a crash. I just heard its not even in the top 20 on a percentage basis.

If it holds around 24K then we may be establishing a bottom. Expect it to be retested as part of a bottoming process.

Interesting that the loosers are across the board in all sectors. Anticipating Fed interest increases?

How can the government/the Fed raise interest rates when the US is the largest debtor and we can barely cover the interest payments at today's rates? A large raise would bust the non-existant budget!

Remember what set off this downturn. The US 10 year bond went from 2.75% to 2.85%! What if it went to 3, 4 or 5%? We wouldn't be able to make the payments on the debt and would default. Then just turn the lights off.

Oh, and today it was unchanged.

"We wouldn't be able to make the payments on the debt and would default. Then just turn the lights off."

If the Treasury needs more money then they will simply print more money.

In other words I borrow money from you and then pay it back over time with less valuable money.

Rummages thru the drawer for a Ford era "WIN" Button. (Whip Inflation Now.)

That ought to do it!

I think their price has gone up

From j!mi's link: "--Ford closed with an address to the American people, asking them to send him a list of ten inflation-reducing ideas---"

This is perhaps the most clueless action of an American president ever, confusing symptom with cause. Inflation is not a rise of consumer prices---though one can find that mistaken definition in dictionaries----and is not caused by consumer actions. Inflation, which should really be called "dilution" is an increase in the money supply in excess of productivity and is only and always caused by those in charge of the money supply.

(if the money supply does not increase then the higher price of one item means that there is less money to be spent on other things, which will result in falling prices for those "other things". there can only be a GENERAL RISE IN PRICES with an influx of new money)

NPR had a program this morning about the stock market. Amongst all the BlahBlahBlahBlah I heard one thing that stuck with me:

"The stock market is NOT the economy."

Good point.
