So I bought a Joyo JF-30 AB Switch. It can be used in reverse so I can A/B guitars into one amp which is a bonus. It also functions perfectly well without power so what is the point of having the ability to be supplied with power?

Does the power or battery run LEDs so you can see what mode you are in? I have an A/B/A+B pedal/box that works this way. I use it when I run my guitar to my Leslie, a one guitar two amp setup.

No idea if the power is only for the LEDs but it makes sense.

I have a Boss AB switch which has unreliable switching, making it frustrating to use, and doesn't function without batteries (I guess because it's electronic switching), and isn't set-up to accept external power. I gave up using it way back in the late nineties. The Joyo seems to be a sturdy, less finicky and more versatile cheap replacement. Time will tell, I guess, if it's reliable or not.

An A+B mode would be very handy. Didn't think about it when I bought the Joyo.

Hey Modal.
I have an old Leem A/B box that works like your Joyo. It's completely passive but requires a 9v battery to power the LEDs only and also has no DC input.

I think it also does A+B, but it's been a million years since I used it so can't be sure.

Don't know I would have a use for it these days but 'spose it's good to have in the gear box.

I only bought it 'cause it was so cheap and probably won't use it often. I have used it today for A/Bing two guitars and two amps. It's really good for flicking between gear while the memory of what was just played is fresh and is much better than changing cables.

Never really knew why I bought the Boss back in the nineties, maybe to experiment. Anyway it became moot because it has a dicky switch.

Years back I had bought a Planet Waves A/B box. It was extremely noisy so it was returned. The one I'm using now I purchased from Taylor of all people. I've had it for years and see they no longer offer them. Works well.

I had a Whirlwind passive A/B/A+B box. It had some noticeable signal loss. So, you might A/B your A/B box! See if a guitar straight in sounds the same as thru the box, with and without power.

Some A/B boxes use MOSFETs to switch channels; these are dead quiet (no click when you step on the switch).
