FDP Forum / Performer's Corner / Tendon Injury in fretting hand - the fix

Thank God for guitars!

Anyone with a 'goose neck' injury (that's what the Dr. called it) which doesn't let you put significant fretting pressure down on strings? I got this awhile back, and didn't really affect my playing until having to play 'Cissy Strut' on bass. Here's my blog post on getting a brace from the Dr. and then my higher tech solution

Goose no longer on the loose!

OK, you're pretty amazing with design software and that 3D printer! That's cool!

Will your finger heal over time?

No. This is the way it is. Dr said he could do surgery to kind of weld the joint but there is supposedly no way to actually fix the tendon damage. I should have gone to get it looked at years ago when I injured it.

I think it's a great design. How's the injury, by the way? Feeling better?

I haven't felt pain from this injury for probably 6 years. It's not painful to play with it but fretting bass notes with the pinky just doesn't work if it's a reach. The splint does help provide the support to do that but it does feel weird; kind of messes with muscle memory.
