Photos are dismal for a 18k instrument.

And there's no detail shots of the wiring/neck markings, etc.

I'd run.

Fender...never say never.

This bass has been around for a few years now with several different owners, as the "sunburst" finish has some rather distinctive, unforgettable, unique markings so out of the ordinary it's a hard one to forget.

Without anything to go by but the photos and the many original 57 split-coils I've seen over the years, the sunburst finish on this bass IMO did not leave the Fender factory this way.

But it's a Fender...never say never.

I've since had a brief online chat with the guy up here who is making offers on it, and who says he himself has "sold over a million dollar's worth of vintage Fender instruments" - I asked if he had looked inside the cavities, or for a paint stick (he says 57 didn't have paint sticks....?) anyway he says the seller sent him "high res" photos and some kind of provenance. I dunno, I still say that burst looks way off... I've seen some odd bursts from the early 60's with a tad too much black, but never from the 50's. BTW, he says the seller is likely going to accept more in the neighborhood of 14K (Canadian - so that's about $4.95 in American money!!

Well someone scooped it up. I love Fenders but I'll never love any $18 grand's worth.

Pretty sure it was bought up for around 13K Canadian, which is about 10 grand US. Still an oddball - frankly even if I had the price, and it WAS all original, I'd have second thoughts. I just plain don't like that burst!
