So I have this 200 year old piece of redwood made into a tele body---Now is time for a neck---looking for a guitar that is not a super bright tele per se---just a great all around guitar used for blues and jazz and roots music----so what neck build wood would you recommend?
I do like rosewood fingerboards---so maple or mahogany or rosewood or ?? not settled yet on stainless steel frets or standard...

Mahogany and rosewood or Madagascar Ebony for the finger board.

Just curious, are you building the neck from scratch or purchasing a made one?

Also, is there a budget on this or "sky's the limit"?

FWIW, I always like contrast between neck & body.
I would tend toward maple w/ rosewood.

Do you have a pic of the redwood?
Some is real dark, some much lighter. That would way in on my decision.

I am buying a neck from either warmoth or usacg---- leaning towards the standard maple with rosewood fingerboard---maybe quartersawn and roasted---

That might be a bit neck heavy--depending on the weight of the body. Some redwoods are as light as red cedar.

Very light body--- 3.62 lbs.
Think I will stick with maple and rosewood---

I would try an all Canary neck. Similar in density to maple, no finish required. More importantly, I've been canary curious for years would like a report back. :-p

I have a Warmoth canary neck with a kingwood fingerboard on a Stratocopy. The unfinished yellow canary has oxydized to a nice mellow tan color. Very nice bare wood feel in the hand too.

I've fallen in love with the tone and feel on my StingRay5's rosewood-on-rosewood neck and the same on my guitarist's St. Vincent EBMM. What about that as an option - a rosewood or similar shaft with a matching board?
