FDP Forum / Fender Guitars: Stratocasters / Warmoth CBS era strat replacement neck...not 100% period correct

My friend just got his warmoth replacement neck for his MIJ 68 strat body. The neck is nice, has stainless frets, unfinished etc.. but the headstock looked a little off to me. So, I compared it to my 67 reissue and noticed that the warmoth was slightly smaller and had more "rounded" edges...over all it is not 100% period correct...even my mighty mite neck is more accurate. what gives??? I thought warmoth had a licensing agreement....

Not an expert at all, but back in '67, I think that was still the period when a lot was done by hand. So there may be some variation found in headstocks, body contours, etc.

Just my guess--would also like to hear about this from someone who knows...

That is correct. Compare Fender headstocks from the mid-to-late 60s and you'll find variations.

Warmoth headstocks are all CNC cut (and there's not a lot of sanding) so they are very consistent from neck to neck.

You are comparing a lot of unknowns here.
Your 67 is a..........reissue.
(Is this an American reissue? Or an MIM? Or an MIJ/MIC? Or........)

Not to mention, your 67 reissue probably has differences between models of the same year, and also models from adjacent years.

And who's to say that your 67 reissue is actually period correct to a real 67?
Maybe your 67 reissue is off, and Warmoth duplicated using their CNC an actual real 67.

How big of a difference are we talking here?

I own a MIJ '68 RI. It has the large headstock but it is not a big as some MIA late '60s Strats I've seen and not as large as a '70 headstock. I'd call it kind of medium.
