FDP Forum / Fender Guitars: Telecasters / String Spacing on Vintage Tele Bridge...Is this Normal???

Just got my Baja 50s Tele today....sounds great, needs a setup.

But what is weird is though the string slots at the nut look correct,

down at the bridge there is a large space between the G and D strings. Is this common on a vintage style bridge? Or when the put the strings on should they have somehow centered one those strings better (for want of a better description). It's a pretty big jump!

Thx

1. Loosen the strings about four turns.

2. Use a fingernail to nudge each string on its bridge barrel so the string runs directly over its corresponding bridge pickup polepiece.

3. Tune back up.

When I get the strings on a three-saddle Tele perfectly spaced, I mark the saddles and use nut files to cut a very shallow groove in the brass for each string. Doesn't take much.

It's especially important if you have a Bigsby on the Tele, because the narrower string spacing of the pins that capture the string ball ends will cause the strings to gradually migrate inward at the saddles.
