I was snooping around on their website because of the current thread on these in Misc., and - dang - they make the 1955 Tele style (with bridge humbucker and neck mini-humbucker - with coil taps on both!) in a lefty version!

This is not good for my gas... I thought I was done buying electric guitars.

Eric - does yours have any coil taps? I'm wondering how those sound...

No coil taps on my 1953. It has a 4-way switch.

I wondered, since it (yours) "appears" to have single coils...

Nice looking guitar.I like the mini hum/humbucker idea. I had a guitar with coil-splitting pickups once. I never used the single coil setting.

"I had a guitar with coil-splitting pickups once. I never used the single coil setting."

It really depends on the pickups - some split well, some don't. I had a Warmoth Strat build years ago with two humbuckers in it - Seymour Duncan Jazz neck and JB bridge - those pickups split very nicely, and a couple of the split in-between sounds were very good, too.

Another set of pups I think would split well would be the DiMarzio PAF Joe and Mo'Joe (Satriani) pickups... they're a little hotter than standard buckers, yet still have great clarity - not muddy at all.

I had a DiMarzio Chopper T in a Tele build years ago and it sounded great split - really got close to a standard Tele bridge tone (because it's a hotter pickup as a humbucker).

Here's a decent demo of the 1955.

Ha! If MK comes out with a spiffy semi-hollowbody, my resolve will surely crumble.

I've been experimenting with my Patriot and I've noticed the pickups are not as lively as...say...my Epi Custom Pro or Agile with Lollar P90s. I wouldn't say they're dull, but they're...ummm...mellow. They sound similar to underwound pups on a semi-hollowbody. They're not bad, just a different flavor.

Interesting. I assumed they were hot.

Have you adjusted poles or pickup height?

Naw! I haven't touch it except to play it. I know the previous owner replaced the pots. I'll need to get in there and see what he did.

Yeah, that 1955 lefty is still calling my name. Thankfully I've had a very busy week and have been focused on an old Larrivee that is finally getting some work done to it (fret level, new tuners, and conversion to lefty which includes new bridge, saddle, nut and side dots).
