I've been using a screwdriver, pliers, a little jumper wire with alligator clips--you name it--as a cap discharge tool.

I decided to make meself one, and the obvious choice was a dead Pilot G2 click pen that's been rattling around in me tool bag.

I used a 2kOhm 2-watt resistor, 14-gauge silicone wire, and a 1" length of 3/64" steel rod for the probe tip. Made sense to use a plastic pen as the handle. The soft rubber grip is a nice feature.

Honorable Discharge? Yep

Great design. My wife and I have desks and bags and everywhere with these pens. Several right next to me while I write this. We always put the refills in them to keep them going. But this is a great alternate use.

My guess is that Pilot is going to want royalties.

Do you have to bias those eyeballs? And how many of these units do you typically go through in a year?

Eyes are cathode biased....no need for maintenance.

Still using the same unit, though "come sit in the chassis" isn't working as good as it used to.
