Damn.

Asked about one at my dealers and he said they had been out for awhile....he called Fender and Fender had none.

So I called Fender, and the guy confirmed "It looks like these have been discontinued".....arrrgh.

I know there are still plenty around but I wonder why this was done. Maybe they were cutting into the more expensive ones sales wise a bit too much...?

Do I hear the sound of a stampede gathering?

If this is true, the FDP will probably buy 'em all. That would be a shame to discontinue the Baja model(s). Even though I'm mostly a Strat person, I think the Baja may be their best playing, sounding and priced guitar of the last many years. They are great guitars. Well made, play nicely, sound great, killer pickups, etc.

I notice that Sweetwater still has a pretty good number of them. In the '50s model, the sunburst version, Sweetwater says "Available Soon." They claim to be waiting for a few more from Fender in the next couple of weeks.

Who knows...?? But again, it would be a shame to see those disappear.

Are these the "Fender Classic Series Classic Player Baja Telecaster"? I see Musician's Friend has them in stock (2 TSB/Maple, black/maple, blonde/maple, sonic blue/rosewood, 3 TSB/rosewood and CAR/rosewood). If I had the itch, blonde/maple would be on order.

Yes. The 50s has a huge fat neck which I love, and the 60s model a thin one. Both great Teles....

That'd be a surprise if it's true. Hasn't the Baja (at least the 50s maple) been one of their consistent best sellers?

If that is true that would be a loss. Baja Teles are great guitars.

The Baja Tele is one I've always been interested in. I'd have to Warmoth it, though.

If this is the case, I'm super glad I bought a Baja Tele last year. These are great guitars.

True enough. The point of the original post, however, is that if they are/have been discontinued, their availability would be seriously limited down the road. Which would be unfortunate.
