Guitar Center has a special run Precision Bass Special. Precision body, Jazz neck with a combination of P and J pickups. The J pickup is marked "Noiseless". I like the concept of it. Anybody own one? Tried one?

I don't know about GC's special run, but I had a P Bass Special with passive pickups about 10 years ago. It was heavy by my standards, but there was nothing else wrong with it. I like a P body better than a J, a J neck better than a P, and a P pickup better than a J neck pickup; so the concept was good IMO.

Tried to play several of these at local GC's. Typically, the setup has been unplayable as they hang on the wall, at least for me. I've had this issue with GC for years. Fenders seem to be the worst, but not the only line of instruments to suffer from this. I've discussed this on several occasions with sales and managers. Basically their story is that since GC has been restructured and more bottom line focused, they no longer set up instruments before hanging them on the wall to sell. If a customer requests an instrument be set up to audition, they will do it if they have a tech available, which is hit and miss. In my experience, Fender's don't suffer their transport well as far as maintaining a set up.
