Played guitar for decades. Never bass. I was asked for a 4 hour gig to give it a try. Did it, loved it. Turns out I think I'm almost as good at bass after 1 week of really trying than I am at a lifetime of being a gigging guitar player.....who knew?

Fender American Professional P-Bass, white/maple. Figured I start with the bass that all others are judged by.

Got a good deal from Sweetwater, advertised at $1449, got it for $1200 included shipping.

I'm pretty excited.

I switched to mostly playing bass a couple years ago, too. Loving it in general plus it's easier on my arthritic old hands. I still noodle a bit on guitar and feel that playing bass has actually improved my guitar playing.

Enjoy!

Cool, my guitar playing is limited to the living room and campfires. Played bass all my life, started on violin with a short time at cello, the day I played the bass I knew. My first bass was the kind a dad gives a 12 year old kid. I played it from 1965 to 1981 then got my Precision "o)

I've never had trouble getting into a band, only once did I not get the job after an audition and it was due to a vocal requirement, I don't sing, I admire the technically great bass players who can, but for me the bass line and the associated effects of bass are weakened when I need to concentrate on a vocal line. There is a lot going on, I imagine if I was in a group were everyone played at my level I woundn't have to work so hard, but that has been rare. Friends who are pros, when I sit in with them, playing is so much easier, it's hard to explain everything I'm doing as a bassest other than just playing the line.

I'm not sure why I bought another, but I bought an RSGuitarworks bass at the end of May, should have it by the end of August. It's a Superlative CS Bass.

Very nice looking instruments.

I occasionally messed around on bass in my younger days but never focused on it, even though other musicians said that it was a more natural instrument for me. I sort of fell into it a few years ago "because somebody has to do it" and learned that they were right. I'm not great, but better than at guitar. Now I wish I had started sooner.

Yeah, after a couple months of pretty intense playing, I've got a long way to go. I does seem way more natural than 6 strings, for me anyway. Thinking of what "could have been" had I started sooner does creep in from time to time, but, playing 6 strings for decades sure hasn't hurt my progress.

I enjoy it, I'm motivated, and I think I play bass slightly more melodically? than the average? I dunno.

I just love learning/playing bass.

rythmpyg, I am sorry to inform you that you now have that "incurable" disease that comes with the low end. :)

You will have two seriously nice basses.
