Great, thanks! Good luck with the VNs. I've heard they are really nice and was considering them when I got the Areas, but they were backordered and I got impatient.

NEW ISSUE: My volume pot stopped working correctly playing at church yesterday. I noticed I wasn't hearing some of my notes. Then it would work ok. Got home, tested it on two different amps with the same results.

Sending it back to Sweetwater for repair, they're sending me a free return label...as the guy said, "Obviously it's on us".

So, could that have been part of my buzz problem?

Finally! Sweetwater got "backed up" and had my guitar for over two weeks.

They said it was a grounding issue with the volume pot.
Ground wire laying over the shielding.

And, "I shouldn't be having any more issues". We'll see. I should get it back this week. Sweetwater has almost had the guitar longer than me.

A "ground wire laying over the shielding" should not be a problem at all because the shield should have continuity with ground. That is plain goofy to state that as a cause of a short (loss of signal).

Something is amiss.

If you lived closer to me I'd fix the dang thing for you. Some guitars are just noisy, but there's almost always a way to mitigate the problem.

Thanks Peegoo, I'd have you fix it too.

When I asked if that would have caused the original buzz, that's what I was told...I should have no more issues.

It gets here tomorrow and I'll be anxious to check it out.

This is what the repair shop guy said, "This is only an issue with the volume. The ground wire was only resting on the shielding. Now that it is properly grounded you shouldn't be having any issues."

Ohhh...poor contact between ground and shielding?

That's different.

Hopefully it's quieter now.

Ok, whew! Little, very little, I know about such things.

Thanks Peegoo, that makes me feel better.

Got it back yesterday. It is much quieter, and the volume knob works. At home it still does have the buzz but not as bad.

I'll play it in church tomorrow and see how it does.

Why do I keep fixing things that work?
Jul 2nd, 2017 12:38 PM   Edit   Profile   Print Topic   Search Topic

Besides the volume pot failure, my deepest wonder was maybe a proximity effects of being to close to your amplifier. When I'm at practice, I have to stand fairly close to my amp while playing my Strat and use positions 2+4 to reduce the hum effect and with a Tele, unless you use the middle position, it is only single coil then and was wondering if this is the issue.
When we play on a stage, I get to be further from my amp and then using single coils is a lot less problematic.
Just had to wonder if this could be the issue?
Food for thought and maybe a valid question.
Best regards, Woody

Woody, yes a valid question. Not sure if it's the same but at church I play through a pod pro processor.

Today, I noticed hum that even my hum debugger didn't fix. I have to think it's in the system at church. Old!

The buzz is not as bad as it was, and it sounds very good!
