Has anyone tried one or both of these amps?

In the Portaflex family of amps and cabs.

Hi George,

Doesn't look like anyone's tried one of these, including me, but they certainly look promising.

My question is why go with that particular shape if there's no speaker cab to fold/store it in. Nostalgia?

I don't have a better answer.

I've seen a few YouTube demos of these amps and they sound amazing.

Round tone for sure.

It is odd that Ampeg didn't include a cab unit as the amps are getting very good reviews. Nostalgia would be a driver to include a fold in head feature.

Maybe soon?

The heads fit in currently sold Portaflex cabinets and there are new cabinets designed for them. The PF-112HLF is not a flip top, but as Ampeg says about the PF-50T, "Affixes to current Ampeg Flip-top cabinets."

I struggled for years trying to practice and gig with a 50 watt Bassman, despite using very efficient EV, Altec and JBL speakers (in the 60's and 70's) so I have no interest in a 20 or 50 watt bass amp.

And I do gig with an Ampeg PF500 and absolutely love the amp.
