FDP Forum / Fender Amps: 1985 - Current / Red Knob Twin-6L6 matching question

Hi there, I bought a red knob twin last year, very happy with it, it had 2 Fender branded 6L6GC ( which were different) and 2 Pinnacle branded 6L6GA power tubes. I ended up taking them all out as one started to fade, and put in 2 TAD 6L6WGC short bottles I had in a Blues Deluxe I sold. Big improvement with only the 2 TADs in there, but I need just a bit more clean headroom ( hard to believe but true) at certain gigs so I put in a new pair of TAD 6L6GC tall bottles (on their own)- Headroom problem solved, different character, more chime, less mid warmth but nice. I can't help wondering how the amp would sound on full power, so my first question is how stupid would I be to mix the TADs I already have, the gcs have 2 weeks use and the wgcs few months, or would it be wiser to buy another pair of gcs and run the 4 gcs.I guess my question is borne from not wanting to spend any money with what I already have, but I don't want to damage the amp obviously. Any advice appreciated, or any red knob twin tips, cheers.

Not stupid at all in my opinion. That mix should not damage the amp. Save the money and go with what you've got. They are both 30W tubes and should handle the plate voltage in that amp.

Those more familiar with the difference between "GC" and "WGC" may have better information, but if it were my amp, I wouldn't hesitate to run at full power and enjoy it.
