WHen I'm playing electric, I generally have my volume on the guitar turned down unless I'm soloing, then, it's all the way, or almost all the way up.
On A/E I have the volume AT 1/2 -23 and mostly use pick pressure to solo o only bump the volume up slightly almost never all the way.
I've seen some guys who run wide open on acoustic all the time.
What's the consensus?

No volume control with my K&K pups, so it's wide open all the time for me.

Same here. I run it open and vary picking. I don't know why other than convenience. A lot of the time acoustics just seem to handle digging in better for me. It may be the cleaner in general sound that doesn't get an overdriven edge to it like the magnetic pickups on electric guitar does when I get after it a bit. All in what works for you I suppose.

Depends: if I'm playing with another acoustic, I'll keep it wide open since our volumes will usually roughly equal. But if I'm playing with an electric guitarist, I'll keep the volume wheel down a bit for rhythm and turn it up for the solo so it doesn't get drowned out.

Presently all my A/E guitars have a volume control. I typically run The Taylors with ES1 at about the detent or 12 o'clock and adjust the amp or PA accordingly.

Sometimes for a solo I'll bump it up a bit. I have two guitars, a Takamime F360S and a Seagull S6 20th Anniversary that came with no e-tronics. I have installed Fishman Matrix Infinities in those. The sound hole tone and volume control work very nicely.

All my A/E guitars also have preamps so running them WFO is really not an option. The signal is just way to hot. My hottest being a Gibson Chet Atkins SST. I like having a little more volume there if I need it just like my on my electric guitars.

I usually carry my L.R. Baggs Para Acoustic DI with me to acoustic gigs just in case. I use it for the notch filter rarely but it's handy when needed. The Fishman Loudbox usually does the trick and I send any FOH signal from the Fishman. I always try to have a amp on stage so I have some tonal and volume control of my monitor.
