On the way. Expectations are not high, then again neither is my mando skill level.

These el-cheepo mandos are fun, but they need a decent setup (nut work, mostly) in order to play easily.

Dive right in!

Yeah, I went ahead and ordered some strings with the instrument. Expecting to do some tweaking.

Change the strings immediately. I have one. It sounded awful and I wrote it off. I finally decided to teach myself to change it's strings and it was a different instrument. Careful of that bridge, it's loose.

Sounds like a good way to test the mando waters without spending a lot of money. Especially if you can set it up yourself.

I had access to a cheap mandolin way back in the day. Think I learned G, C, D. I'd do my faux "I can play mando" at music stores where I'd fast pick a G to C transition, sliding the 3rd's to get all Muricana, then quickly put it back on the wall.

Time to really learn now, I guess.

What a cute little pos. Lol.

Received, tuned to pitch and intonation is remarkably spot on. Some sharp fret ends, nut will probably need some tweaking. I'll leave it to pitch for a day or two before putting the good strings on, just wanna make sure the neck doesn't snap off first.

"What a cute little pos."

Too funny.

Crappy (inexpensive) instruments are sometimes great instruments. I have an Oscar Schmidt ukulele that plays great. Also a GS Mini that is absolutely amazing. Both very inexpensive.

Ian Anderson has many "kitchen flutes" that he has stashed in dishtowel drawers and silverware drawers that he keeps going back to. "They are fun and I do things on them I wouldn't do on a professional flute."

So for shirts and gurgles I recorded this 1 minute track to try out my new $49 mando.

(Edit-link removed as track is now been accepted for commercial use)

Nicely played ... was that a backing track you were using?

That mando sounds fine!

No, I put it together in Pro Tools. Acoustic guitars, bass, synth fiddle, accordion and some poorly played spoons, lol.
