The bird is what it is all about.

Mine was the Nikon 50 1.4G on the D800, I think, though I had the old 28-105 on there for some reason so who knows! I don't read up. I often shoot with a wide and end up cropping in post. I don't have the money to have lots of options, so I stick to simple and safe.

Like I say, I get it wrong all the time!

Well the primes do generally transmit better micro contrast.

Nice image Saturn! I like the light poles on the right. There's a lot of beauty in that image but my eye was drawn to that feature.

I like the silloette against the sunset Chris. I took a similar image outside of Enid, OK earlier this year against a sunrise. I had my S120 with my one that trip and it held its own in the situation. In the end I wanted a wider scene than the camera could capture.

Yeah, those light poles grabbed my attention as we re heading out thanks to getting cold. If I had working hands I would have backed up a bit to get all the closest pole in.

De ville, turns out that first one was with the 28-105, a very 'cheap' old lens. Currently trying to decide on which old lenses to drop from my kit!

The lamp posts are with the 50mm 1.4G!

EXIF for 28-105

Nice image, hush. It would be interesting to see it with the flags cropped out. I think it would be stronger.

Maybe, I could play around with it. I try to compose through the lens and was incorperating the three thing applied to some art.

My thought was that the two thing would be a stronger image.

I agree with Chris. I'd give it a try.

I think I like it better, more focused. But more importantly, what do you think?

I agree it kind of works to frame the sunset better. Less distraction., more focus on the primary context. This was cropped from the down loaded photobucket file. I'll dig up the original jpeg taken on the Pentax and crop the full file.

This image looks a little grainy, but it's a much smaller file posted to photobucket then uploaded to my FDP User Profile.

Thank for the recomendation.

And if you consider, you still have tree things - the performer, the cloud column in the center, and the lamp. There's a guy in the middle who's barely lit. If you can, try to silhouette him like the rest of the audience and see what you think. Sometimes, I'll accept some noise for what I feel is a better image. The sunset with the silhouetted bird in the tree I posted earlier is a good example. That was about a third of the full frame.

Here's a cell phone picture taken a year ago Boxing Day.

Not much going on in sunset land this time of year.
