FDP Forum / Fender Amps: Vintage (before 1985) / Is this 1966 Super Reverb OK to buy?

Mar 26th, 2017 07:55 PM   Edit   Profile

Hello everyone! I just found a 1966 Super Reverb, with some "mods" like replacing the 4x10" by 1x12" and some problems, like the tremolo channel not working. I can't and play at his amp because he is four states away from me... There is some pics, and I wanted some opinion about. Does this looks good to buy and restore to the original specs, or does this looks like a expensive problem?

It looks like it will need more work than it's worth. Just my opinion.

I would not touch it...certainly not at that price.

Also very dangerous to have the filter caps exposed like that behind the preamp tubes....accidental death waiting to happen.

About as ordinary as you can get.

Pass on it. There are probably better amps closer to you and at a better price. This poor amp was really hacked up.

Vintage Super Reverbs aren't as much in demand as Deluxe Reverbs. Too big and heavy. A modded one? No thanks.

I was going to dissent from the opinions above, but then I did the conversion from reals to dollars. That's about $1600 US, which is far too much for a Super Reverb in that condition. Half that price would be about right. And I love blackface Super Reverbs!
