Stopped in Guitar Center today with the intention of getting some accessories (guitar cord, string cleaner, maybe a shirt or hat), and a butterscotch Squier Tele singled me out as soon as we walked in the door. It's used, and was priced to sell, so guess what? The problem is, I can't bring it home until April 18th, because any used gear at Guitar Center must be held for 30 days to ensure it is not stolen.

If it's the Vintage 50's Tele that usually sells new for about $399 street, they're good guitars. I like mine; have used it the last two Sundays on our worship team (through a Mesa Express Plus 5:25).

I think mine is just a Squier Affinity, as the used price was only $99. It was made in China, and the craftsmanship is very good. I gave it a workout through a Fender Deluxe Reverb Reissue, and it sounded great on all three pickup settings. The C profile neck was very comfortable as well, and I saw no evidence of sharp fret edges.

Very cool...if you're happy, it's a win! You definitely got a good deal.

I bought one of these on a whim a couple years ago. I swapped the pickups out for a set of Fender vintage Tele pickups - the ones that sell for about $80. I also changed the pots. In the end it was an excellent sounding Tele for cheap.

Around here used Teles, even copies, RH and esp. LH, are almost nearly impossible to find.

Pawn shops: Almost never. Over a few days I hit around 15 PSs that weren't local, and found: One MIM (a tuner needed to be reinstalled, possibly replaced), one Nashville (both were at the same shop). Locally I found one Jay Turser, and my recent visits were futile. Several PS employees told me they don't see many Teles these days.

Independent guitar store near us: None.

Several Guitar Center stores: None. Per the staff they rarely get them. When they do they sell on-line very quickly, and are only on the wall a day or two.

If a lefty wants a Tele, new seems like the only option.

Well, I finally picked up my used Squier Affinity Tele yesterday. It was very hard having to wait a month :-( I am loving everything about it, but I especially love the butterscotch color. I am not one to modify things unless absolutely necessary, and I see no reason not to keep this one stock. It sounds fantastic thru my Princeton Chorus.
It was a bargain at $99.

I just found a used Squier Affinty Tele in a pawn shop downtown. Someone put brass barrels on it and it might have different pickups. $90. I might wander back there Monday and look it over closer.

Someone sanded off the logo from the headstock. And it has a tortoise pg now. I almost wonder if it wasn't the one I had a few years back down in NC.

I need to dig out a picture of that guitar. I remember having a tortoise pg hanging around and putting it on something. I put a black pg on my Squier CV Tele and deemed it the banana-caster.

Well, I might take a left at Albuquerque here.

They also had an older SX Les Paul hanging on the wall. I didn't look closely, but it might be a "lawsuit" version (original headstock - non-neutered horn). I might check that out for a purchase as I recently got a set of HB-sized P90s from Aaron (see post in Pup Tent forum). I bought those to stick in my Agile AL3000 since I now have a real Les Paul. It currently sports a set of HighOrder custom wound HBs. I might leave that guitar as-is and buy the SX to put these new Rumpels in.
