FDP Forum / Fender Guitars: Telecasters / Baja Tele, simple question: Neck measurements?

Mar 4th, 2017 05:18 PM   Edit   Profile   Print Topic   Search Topic

Has anyone actually measured one of these necks?
Surely someone has done this.
Thickness at 1st and 12th frets?

Everybody goes on and on about thicker than this or that, or this V shape versus that.

What about the actual dimensions?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know the dimensions either. Mine has a very soft V that is on the thicker side. I wouldn't call it a baseball bat size neck but expect it to feel beefier compared to a American Standard neck for example.

I have small hands but don't find the neck uncomfortable for me. The Baja Teles are great guitars. I've had mine for some years now and is the 50s version with maple neck. There were no other models when I purchased mine. I really like the Broadcaster bridge and Twisted Tele neck pickups that mine offers. It also has 4 way switching and S1 type switching which creates and extra 3 tonal options which I rarely use myself.

Hi. I have the maple neck Baja. The neck thickness is approx. 0.950" at first fret and 1.050" at 12th. It feels fat but not uncomfortably so. I have small hands but it's still fine.
There may be a very small V shape near the headstock, but it's barely there.
I like a V-neck. The best I've had is on a Lite Ash Strat (Fender line made in Korea). That was a great neck but I sold the guitar because it was really heavy. I've toyed with the idea of getting a Lite Ash Tele neck.
My Baja is heavy at 8.6 pounds, about a half pound heavier than my Strats.
I love the guitar overall. Great tones.

RDR: Thanks for taking the time to actually measure it.

I have played a few in stores, and an acquaintance has one. I'd call the neck beefy but not baseball bat. Towards the lower frets it is definitely a V, but not a super hard V. If you are playing a lot of fuller barre chords up the neck, you'll appreciate the extra thickness. FWIW, I played a G&L one time years ago, and that particular guitar was the definition of a hard V.

I am wavering between a Warmoth Boat and Fatback replacement neck for a Clapton Strat. (Yes, I know that they offer a Clapton shape, but I already have that.) It sounds like the Boat neck may be the closest they have to the Baja.

Thanks again.

So, so you think you can tell.

I think they call the maple neck on the Baja a soft V. Anyway for what it's worth, I love mine.
