FDP Forum / Fender Amps: 1985 - Current / Any advice on 1995 blues deluxe I just bought?

Bought a tweed yesterday made in 1995. A welcome addition after chasing tone with this boutique amp I'm using. Any advice from u guys who have been using them for a while? I'm running the distortion and the delay through the front....I don't notice anything awful by not having the delay in the loop. I am gonna put a volume pot in the loop today and see if I can drive the pre amp tubes a bit

Hi enginecap!

I used to own one, too!
Nothing wrong with these amps - except that they can be a bit loud if you want some natural overdrive from the amp itself ;-)

As yours is over 20 years old, it might be a good idea to have a tech look it over to see if all the parts (electrolytics and such) are in good working order.

Also, if you think the reverb is a bit to bright and comes on too strong, thereĀ“s a very, very simple mod for it figured out by FDP-member Steve Dallman. It works great and you should be able to find it by searching the net for "steve dallman reverb mod" or "blues deluxe reverb mod".

cheers - C.

Great amp!

Lots of potential in that amp! Stock they are fine/solid as is. Modded they can be great!(yes depends on who and what was done...) I have one that's modded to the max and I love it. Smoking cool amp. IMO Blues Jr's sound modern and with a master volume and reverb, they are a very versatile amp (unlike say a 5E3 Deluxe.. which sounds cool... but not as flexible)

Another previous Blues Deluxe owner here.
Mine was a '93 (first year run).

I never did anything other than tube & speaker swaps on mine and it served me well for blues harp & guitar for over ten years of gigging.

I used a few different speakers & configurations in it and they all performed well.
The last set up I had was 2 x 10" Jensens and it sounded awesome.
I put it back to stock when I sold it (in 2006) and occasionally still have seller's remorse over it :^)

Oh, also I ran THD Yellow Jackets in it from time to time. I think they're still available. Allows running EL84 power tubes in it. The YJ's dropped it to 18w (without physical mods) but gave it that EL84 tone. (and was still plenty loud)

I own one and think it's Fender's most under-appreciated amp......but having said that,,,,like most really good amps, it needs a bit of help to perform it's best.

I put a set of good tubes in that I got from Torres Engineering, and took out the speaker and replaced it with a Eminence Cannabis Rex ....THAT did the trick!

Much mellower Classic Fender Tweed tone, and a rounder, fuller bottom end while retaining that classic Fender Chime.

To control loudness, I suggest a volume Box......do a Google search for one.

Just my 2 cents worth.
