I had the older Toneport GX which was not supported by the latest mac OS. So I'm looking at this unit. While I may use it for recording, mostly I'm looking for an interface which allows playback of mp3's while I practice my guitar through the input. The GX did that and I'd think the UX would, but I don't see anything in the blurbs about the thing to confirm that. Anybody use the UX here?

I'd email L6 or call Sweetwater for this type of question.

They usually have somebody who knows.

I've found my dude to actually be useful for very specific hardware questions for recording with unconventional stuff.

Got the UX1 pretty cheap on reverb.com. Downloaded software/drivers from line6. Set UX1 as main in/out on my computer and away I go!

Works out just as I hoped. I can play any mp3 or even streaming song on the computer and my guitar goes through UX1 and into the mix. I can even put a mic into the UX1 and sing along as well. Playback through the speakers or headphones. For me, it's a great practice and learning tool.

Maybe I'll even use it for recording, when I get around to doing some of that.

I had a ux1 but didn't keep it long. When I compared recordings I'd made (without effects) with the other daws I use (logic and Cubase)imo it was dull and lifeless. The best recordings were with my old mbox 1 with it's focus-rite pre-amps which I still use and prefer. The only drawback is it only works with pro-tools.
